I found this to be the best method of replicating Eric's tone.
SO the amp is a woofy dark mess, and the TD is just a big mid boost to make everything sing. Then on the tube driver, per Eric's actual settings, he has both the hi and lo eq pretty close to zero, so I goosed the output of that and used it's gain control to adjust the amount of distortion. In trying to replicate Eric's actual settings, I found that using the Plexi jumpered model, setting it mostly dark with almost no treble, and the blending in the bright channel ever so slightly, got me pretty close.

In yours, you set the amp bright and then let the tube driver add the lows. I was able to get similar results, although i prefer swapping the method of getting the dark tone. That "second" Gtr also "punch in" and do a few picked arpeggios here and there (I had to google the name we used back then) all over the verse it also pumps up alot in volym on a few occasion during the song. That second Gtr is very clean sounding and it play some picked arpeggios for a few seconds over the main riff then stops it has some effects going on probaby a Chorus and is very compressed. Or play an acoustic yourself i hate that sound i never really managed to find a technique to get rid of that noise. Hard to tell really as it can be his 335 aswell as it doesnt make those common "string noise" when you move your hand you almost always hear on recorded acoustic guitar. I gonna do a matched IR for Limelight when i got some time off as i got hold of the original "stems" (Gtr 1 and 2) of that songĪnd as you say the main riff is probably doubled or even tripple tracked then mixed down to one track.Īnd just before the vocal kicks in Alex use what i think is an acoustic guitar.
